10 Ways to Fix College Admissions

It is mid-July. College campuses thunder with the sound of high school students and their parents touring dorms, questioning admissions officers and sampling cafeteria food before they decide which schools to apply to.

Many people don't think this is fun. Several of them consider the entire admissions process in need of a make-over. I have been collecting the thoughts of such critics. I have added some of my own complaints and have come up with a list of changes. As a reality check, I asked a group of college admissions officers and high school counselors at a Columbus, Ohio, conference of the National Association for College Admission Counseling to rate each suggestion for quality (3 is good, 2 is mediocre, 1 is bad) and likelihood (3 is very, 2 is maybe and 1 is no way.)
